RunningHeadShow

Choose which heading a RunningHead shows on each page.

Selects which heading a RunningHead shows on each page. The previous section remains active until another matching heading, a within match, or an element with data-running-head-reset changes it.

Variants

NameDescription
first
The first matching heading on the page. If there is no match, uses the previous section. This is the default.
start
The section active at the top of the page. If the page opens with matching headings, uses the last of them. Otherwise, uses the previous section, even if a new section starts farther down the page.
last
The last matching heading on the page. If there is no match, uses the previous section.
firstExcept
Like first, but empty on pages with a matching heading. Use this to hide the running head on chapter opening pages.
range
The first and last sections on the page, joined by rangeSeparator. Includes the previous section if its content continues onto the page. Identical entries appear once. With within, includes only sections in the chapter active at the top of the page. Pair with start on the chapter running head.
