Organizations

Manage your team's access, settings, and render history.

An organization groups your API keys, render history, and metrics. Each organization has its own members and settings.

Every account includes a Personal organization for individual use. To work with others, create a team organization and invite them to join.

Create an organization

  1. Open the organization menu in the Format dashboard sidebar and select New organization.
  2. Enter a name and choose a URL slug.
  3. Select Create organization.

You become the organization's first owner. Use the organization menu to switch between your personal organization and any teams you've joined.

Admins and owners can update the name and URL slug under Settings → General.

Roles

Your role determines what you can manage within an organization. You can have a different role in each team.

RolePermissions
MemberView render history and metrics, use Studio, and create and manage personal API keys.
AdminEverything a member can do, plus manage organization settings, invitations, members and other admins, and all API keys.
OwnerEverything an admin can do, plus manage owners and delete the organization.

To change someone's role, open Settings → Members, select their actions menu, and choose the new role. Only owners can assign or remove the Owner role, and an organization must always have at least one owner.

Invite members

Admins and owners can invite people to a team organization.

  1. Open Settings → Members and select Invite member.
  2. Enter the person's email address and choose Member or Admin.
  3. Select Send invitation.

Invitations expire after seven days. The recipient must sign in with the invited email address and verify it before joining. To make someone an owner, change their role after they accept the invitation.

Manage pending invitations under Settings → Invitations. Resend sends a new email and gives the recipient seven days to respond. Cancel withdraws the invitation.

Render history retention

Under Settings → General, admins and owners can choose how long to keep render history: 7, 30, or 90 days. New organizations keep history for 30 days by default.

The setting applies to both existing and new renders, including their events and tags. Shortening the retention period deletes history older than the new limit. Increasing it doesn't restore history that's already been deleted.

Usage totals remain available in Metrics after render history expires.

Membership changes

To leave a team, open Settings → Members, select the actions menu beside your name, and choose Leave organization. If you're the only owner, assign another owner before leaving.

To remove someone else, open their actions menu and select Remove from organization. Admins can remove members and other admins. Only owners can remove another owner.

Leaving or being removed revokes the person's personal API keys and Studio sessions for that organization. Existing Studio access can continue for up to an hour. Organization keys remain active, including those created by the person who left.

Rejoining requires a new invitation and doesn't restore previous personal keys or Studio sessions.

Delete an organization

Owners can delete a team organization under Settings → Danger zone. Select Delete organization, enter the organization's name, and confirm.

Deletion permanently removes the organization's API keys, Studio sessions, render history, and metrics. All members lose access.

Deletion continues in the background. You can check its progress under Settings → Manage account.
